This song is about a trip I took in November to Rio De Janeiro, the most magical place on earth, where almost, absolutely no-one speaks English and I knew absolutely no-one and spoke absolutely no Portuguese. It was the most alien experience of my life. I'd come from winter in the northern hemisphere, there in Brazil, It was spring and beautiful. It took me a few days to get my cellphone working so I couldn't communicate with anyone for the first three days. I'd escaped winter and conversation for a little while at least, and was loving the adventure of being in such a foreign place.
Everything was backwards, left is right, up is down, black is white, winter is summer, and it is a place full of the most beautiful people on the planet wearing very little clothing, just enjoying paradise. I spent two weeks in a hotel just down from Copacabana Beach. The song is about how I got there, and what I did there..........
lyrics
I don't need you anymore,
That's what you told me on the phone November four,
And so we've lost our song and dance,
I'll never sing that song I wrote for you in France,
So I embrace prostitution,
Not my decision this unholiest solution.
I give it to Katia,
Pour the champagne,
Took me with pleasure,
Escaped all the pain.
You know you've taught me a powerful lesson,
I'd rather pay for it than suffer this depression,
Unholy sexual paradise,
She said you're special would you like another night,
I'd taken more if I could only pay the fee,
She left half naked down to Ipanema Beach.
But then I found Sandra,
The bell of Brazil,
Copacabana - Rio,
De Casse Hotel.
So half drunk I roam these streets,
Can't understand a word that anybody speaks,
Like the universe has cut out my ears,
Finally silence I have searched for this for years,
I was obsessed with her locks of blonde hair,
On the tropic of capricorn where.
That's where I found Sandra,
The bell of Brazil,
Copacabana - Rio,
De Casse Hotel.
She was the woman from the hotel,
She rolled her cigarettes so yellow and so well,
I'd stare into her eyes for hours,
I'd buy my beer then I'd buy her orange flowers,
Another Goddess of the Amazon,
I wish I'd kissed her but I was always too gone.
And her name was Sandra,
The bell of Brazil,
Copacabana - Rio,
De Casse Hotel.
All I want now is Sandra,
The bell of Brazil,
Copacabana - Rio,
De Casse Hotel.
